Mumbi is a Visual Artist and Designer with a passion for storytelling. Starting at art magnet schools from the age of 9, she went on to pursue a degree in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, selecting the major for its interdisciplinary emphasis. Once there, she developed a Performance and Installation-based focus, inspired by artists such as Nick Cave and the rituals of the Winiama of Burkina Faso.
Mumbi’s incorporation of extensive Costume elements in her work led her to pursue Costume and Styling upon graduation. Her styling work has been featured in publications such as i-D, L’Officiel & Marie Claire, and her Costume Design work has been displayed at film festivals such as Sundance and Berlinale.
In 2022 Mumbi received a Masters Degree in Costume Design from UCLA and became a member of IATSE local 477. She currently works for the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, which provides support services to cultural organizations and creative professionals, administers public and private grant programs, advocates for cultural funding and enhances local arts education.
